Wat's a digderidoo?

Wat's a digderidoo?

Postby HERMINIA » Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:42 pm

Digderidoo is a wind instrument developed by indigenous of northern Australia, at least 1500 years ago, and it is still widespread used today both in Australia and around the world. It's sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or drone pipe.
Tradicionally, it was played as an accomnpaniment to ceremonial dancing and singing, but is common to play it solo outside of ceremonial gatherings as well.
A medical study, published in 2005 has found that learning and practicing the Digderidoo helped reduce snooring and sleep apnea by strenghening muscles in the upper airway, thus reducing their tendency to collapse during sleep.

Thanks Herminia. That's interesting, especially the part about snoring. I'd never heard that before. Some times I see people (buskers) playing didgeridoos in the street. Have you ever seen one?
I hope you are enjoying the course.

Peter
