3. "Every group is a mixed-ability group." Do you agree with this? What are the implications of this statement for teachers?
I completely agree with the statement, kids have different learning styles and they all learn at different speeds…what might be interesting for some becomes a burden for others. It is like having 30 different patients at a doctor’s office, them having different symptoms but wanting to give them all the same medication…it doesn’t work.
Implications? Getting to know all your students, be aware of what they are best at and try not to evaluate them the same way because that never works.
4. Mixed ability is usually considered to be a problem. But is it? Could there be some advantages to having students of different levels and abilities in the same class?
We work in groups of three at school so we usually mix kids with different abilities and that always helps…collaborative work is essential so what one knows is shared with the group.
