When you plan a lesson the first thing you must bear in mind is the communicative objective, what do you want the students to learn, then what grammar and language points they need to learn related to the communicative aim. After that, the teacher must organize the different steps with several activities to develop the timing for the didactic unit and see the material needed.

Your comments are helping me a lot. I am not an experienced teacher. However, is it really the teacher who decides what the students have to learn or do you get a teaching academic programme from the school or from educational institutions which you have to follow?
