Studio Time is a key mission in GTA Online introduced with The Contract update, serving as the penultimate mission in this DLC. It revolves around recovering Dr. Dre's stolen phone and car, which are in the hands of a rival musician, Johnny Guns.
To unlock Studio Time, players must first own an Agency and complete all VIP Contracts associated with The Contract DLC. These include three main contract threads—Nightlife Leak, High Society Leak, and South Central Leak—each with two prep missions and one setup mission.
After completing all these missions, players wait in a public lobby until Franklin calls to invite them back to the Agency, triggering a cutscene involving Franklin, Dre, Lamar, and Imani. This cutscene reveals that Johnny Guns has Dre's phone, and shortly after, Franklin requests the player to retrieve Dre's car from outside the Agency.
The mission begins by taking Dre's car parked outside the Agency and driving to Record A Studios, a new location introduced in The Contract update located in Rockford Hills, west Los Santos. Upon arrival, players face a firefight outside the studio with several hired gunmen. Players must use cover effectively and a variety of weapons such as assault rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers, and stick bombs to clear the enemies.
After securing the exterior, players enter the studio where more gunmen await. The combat inside requires cautious movement from cover to cover, as enemies can spawn behind the player in previously cleared areas. A recommended strategy includes using proximity mines to cover spawn points and the auto shotgun to quickly push through rooms. Clearing all enemies inside leads to a cutscene where Dre records a track and celebrates with the player character.
Record A Studios becomes accessible only after completing the story missions in The Contract DLC. Initially, players can only stand outside, but after finishing the missions and receiving Franklin's invitation, they can enter the studio with a friend to trigger co-op Short Trip missions. These missions can be replayed anytime, and the studio serves as a hangout spot with unique clothing options and a rooftop area. Inside, players can also engage in a special "weed trip" mission that offers a psychedelic experience.
