I always practice spelling bee with my class after to introduce the vocabulary, it helps a lot when they are doing dictation. I think is a funny way to do writing lessons.

Hi Eva, thanks for posting! I think your memory activity sounds really useful - do you know this book?
Memory Activities for Language Learning by Nick Bilbrough, it's in the Cambridge Handbooks for Language teachers series. It includes lots of different memory activities - you might find it interesting!

Hi there,

when I teach very young learners we don't do very much of writting but of course they have to copy words or do some easy exercises. To make it more funny for them I use quite often brainstorming - they have to write as many words from our last lesson as they remember, or some other words they know, etc. Two of them who have the most words and correctly written, are the winners - they get a star and having five stars means to get mark 1.

With learners about 9 years old we use writting more often. They like to make own "projects" f. e. to draw a picture showing their favourite film and than they write a short description about that book's content.

Cheers, Eva
